Testing MacNail Icons

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. We keep these instructions online for our die-hard MacNail users! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing.

Double-click on each icon to test it. If the correct file opens, you're all set! If you get an error message saying Cannot find file check to ensure the path and file name are correct, this means that Windows could not find your Excel application (EXCEL.EXE).

To fix the problem, follow these steps:

1. Switch to the File Manager. Choose Associate from the File menu, and type "XLM" into the Files With Extension field.
2. Type the full path name of your EXCEL.EXE file into the Associate With field. If you do not know the path name, you can use the Browse button to find it, and Windows will put in the correct path name for you.
3. Click OK, and switch to the Program Manager. Your icons should now work correctly.

If you get an error message saying The path ‘C:\MACNAIL@.XLM’ is invalid when you try to open an icon in the Program Manager, follow these steps:

1. In the Program Manager, click ONCE on the icon to select it, then choose Properties from the File menu.
2. The path in the Command Line field is incorrect. You will need to type in the correct path for the file you want to open (e.g. C:\MACNAIL\MACNAIL@.XLM for the MacNail Manager). If you do not know the correct path, use the Browse button to find the file, then click OK. Windows will enter the correct path name for you.
